There are three main types of lighting, general, task, and accent. General lighting is your main light source for the room. These are your floor lamps or your recessed and track lighting. Task lighting is focused on a specific area. A perfect example of task lighting is a light installed under a kitchen cabinet so you can see the counters better. Finally, accent lighting is used to subtly illuminate an area. You can often find this lighting around the landscape in your garden or on an end table in the living room.
In choosing the appropriate chandelier, ask yourself, "will the chandelier effectively blend into my room's existing furnishings?" Chandeliers can blend with your decor or serve as a distinctive focal point in the room. Take note that a chandelier adds extra style to a room, but is considered a poor light source. It is important to note that a chandelier doesn't need an abundance of bulbs even if a room is big, and allow other lighting in the room to supplement a more restrained chandelier.Chandelier Basics. Buy a special crystal chandelier cleaner from a lighting retailer, or mix your own solution together one part isopropyl alcohol or ammonia added to three parts water is sufficient. Put this solution into a spray bottle. Spray every part of your chandelier with the solution, but try to avoid wiring and other electrical components (as water can cause them to short circuit).
Leave your chandelier to drip dry (this is where the drop cloth comes in handy!), which may take a few hours. If you feel that your chandelier is too dirty for this cleaning method (meaning that the dust will just be left streaky instead of completely removed), you can wash each individual crystal with the isopropyl alcohol and water solution.
